Mitch Williams hates extra inning baseball

POSTED: Friday, March 1, 2013, 6:10 PM

Apparently former Phillies closer Mitch Williams is not a fan of extra inning baseball in the spring.

Williams, a host of “MLB Tonight,” Major League Baseball Network’s flagship program, was none too happy when Thursday’s Mets/ Nationals exhibition game went into extra innings, pushing back the start time of the show.

“Extra baseball in spring training, that’s like extra tooth decay at the dentist,” Williams exclaimed, as he stood up from his seat at the MLB Tonight desk and exited the set.

Maybe Williams had a warm meal waiting for him at home, as the anchors on Hot Stove suggest, or maybe he was simply sick of watching his former rival, the Mets.

Despite an additional inning, the Mets and Nationals ended the game in a 4-4 tie.

Mitch Williams is just too funny. Along with Harold, they keep what could be very dull segments alive and funny.

Haimish: "Free baseball" is a term for a game that goes extra innings. You paid for nine, you get more

Mitch's NJ rental property was egged shortly after he single-handedly blew the series. Being the carpet bagger he was, he and his family immediately packed their bags, piled into his truck and headed south back to Texas.

Which is pretty funny since Mitch lives in Jersey and had a business there and coached the AC minor league baseball team and worked at WIP and Comcast on occasion. Another know-nothing "fan."

I guess you didn't bother to read the more intelligent comments before yours or your Mitch hate will never go away no matter what the truth is. Whatever the case may be, the worst manager in recent Phillies history blew game six of the series, not Mitch Williams. Mitch was a stand up guy then and he's a stand up guy now when discussing the game. I guess you would have hung around if your life was threatened? And BTW, the Phillies traded him to Houston after the season, he didn't head south back to Texas on his own.

Fregosi was to blame not Mitch. Unfortunately, intelligence lacking robotic managers from that era are still around today!
