Mike Sielski voted top sports columnist by APSE

Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist Mike Sielski was voted the top sports columnist in the over 175,000 circulation category by the Associated Press Sports Editors. The news was released on Wednesday night in a tweet:

Philadelphia Inquirer's Mike Sielski takes first place in Column Writing in over 175,000 http://t.co/QopUpts8vg

According to the APSE website, "The Column Writing category is judged based on style, writing quality, originality and local appeal. There is no restriction on subject matter and no requirement that the column appears regularly. Each news organization is permitted two entries in this category."

Sielski, who came to the Inquirer from the Wall Street Journal, will be awarded a plaque at the APSE Conference June 24-­27 at The Westgate Hotel in San Diego, Calif.

Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post came in second place.
