Lehigh Valley IronPigs introduce bathroom video games you control with, well, your pee

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have announced plans to install brand new "urinal gaming systems" in all of the restrooms at Coca-Cola Park. Well, all of the men's restrooms at least.

Touted as the "world's only truly hands-free game controller," the system will allow users to play a game while they pee.

According to a press release, as a fan approaches the urinal, a video screen detects the user and engages a gaming mode. Once in gaming mode, the user interacts with the game by, well, peeing on it. The urinal's sensors determine where the player is urinating and the strength of his stream and use that information to provide visual feedback on the screen which is mounted at eye level.

By now you're probably checking the nearest calendar to see if this is an April Fools' Day prank. I assure you that it is not.

Among the games on tap for the 2013 season is an alpine snowmobiling game in which the player is apparently directed to pee on penguins as they approach. Yep. And just in case you get bored of whizzing on wildlife, the games will change throughout the season so, much like when tailgating in the Jetro lot before a Phillies game, you'll never know what exactly you're going to get to urinate on.

After completing the game, IronPigs fans will then get a score and a code which can be entered online, allowing them to share their score with their friends. The information will also be tallied on a public leaderboard which will be shown throughout the night on the video screens at Coca-Cola Park, which seems like a textbook definition of an 'overshare'.

"These games are sure to make a huge splash," IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes said in a press release about the devices. The emphasis was his, not ours by the way. Landes added that the urinal games are "another example of our commitment to providing an unparalleled entertainment experience in all aspects of Coca-Cola Park, including our restrooms."

The systems were designed by UK-based Captive Media, and Coca-Cola Park is the first ever North American sporting venue to make use of the technology. So while the Phillies' farm system may not exactly be stocked with talent anymore, at least the stadiums are really cool.

It's worth noting that peeing on penguins isn't all about fun and games. No, it's also about men's health. The games are sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Health Network and aim to promote prostate cancer awareness and encourage men to get regular checkups from their physician.

In case you're wondering, Captive Media says the average 'game time' is 55 seconds so be sure to plan your mid-inning bathroom breaks accordingly.
