The pitchforks are out for Charlie Manuel today, after the Phillies were swept by the Cincinnati Reds. Through the season's first 15 games, the Phils' record stands at 6-9. A considerable segment of the team's fan base considers this to be a crisis.

They aren't alone. A prominent sports book currently has Charlie Manuel as the odds-on favorite to be the first manager fired this year in Major League baseball.

Not everyone thinks it's time to panic yet. As the Inquirer's Matt Gelb wrote on Twitter this morning:

Should Charlie Manuel be fired?

With the Phillies off to a slow start, impatient fans are already calling for the manager's ouster.

Yes, now.

Too early to decide.

  955 (25.8%)
He's earned a full season.

  999 (27.0%)
I'd extend his contract.

  118 (3.2%)
Don't know / don't care

  138 (3.7%)
Total votes = 3704

I suppose this bears mentioning, given things I've heard: The Phillies have played 9.3 percent of their season. #footballtown

I'll leave it up to you to decide what the majority view is, and what the loudest view is.

I figured, though, that I could at least try to put the Phillies' campaign so far into a little bit of context. Here's a look at the Phillies' records through the first 15 games of every season under Charlie Manuel and Larry Bowa. It goes back to 2001, which is a pretty good range:

Year After 15 Games Manager Final Record Outcome
2013 6-9 Charlie Manuel n/a n/a
2012 7-8 Charlie Manuel 81-81 3rd Place
2011 10-5 Charlie Manuel 102-60 1st Place, Lost NLDS
2010 10-5 Charlie Manuel 97-65 1st Place, Lost NLCS
2009 7-8 Charlie Manuel 93-69 1st Place, Lost World Series
2008 7-8 Charlie Manuel 92-70 1st Place, Won World Series
2007 4-11 Charlie Manuel 89-73 1st Place, lost NLDS
2006 6-9 Charlie Manuel 85-77 2nd Place
2005 7-8 Charlie Manuel 88-74 2nd Place
2004 6-9 Larry Bowa 86-76 2nd Place
2003 9-6 Larry Bowa 86-76 3rd Place
2002 7-8 Larry Bowa 80-81 3rd Place
2001 9-6 Larry Bowa 86-76 2nd Place

And here's that list sorted from best to worst start:

Year After 15 Games Manager Final Record Outcome
2011 10-5 Charlie Manuel 102-60 1st Place, Lost NLDS
2010 10-5 Charlie Manuel 97-65 1st Place, Lost NLCS
2003 9-6 Larry Bowa 86-76 3rd Place
2001 9-6 Larry Bowa 86-76 2nd Place
2012 7-8 Charlie Manuel 81-81 3rd Place
2009 7-8 Charlie Manuel 92-70 1st Place, Lost World Series
2008 7-8 Charlie Manuel 93-69 1st Place, Won World Series
2005 7-8 Charlie Manuel 88-74 2nd Place
2002 7-8 Larry Bowa 80-81 3rd Place
2013 6-9 Charlie Manuel n/a n/a
2006 6-9 Charlie Manuel 85-77 2nd Place
2004 6-9 Larry Bowa 86-76 2nd Place
2007 4-11 Charlie Manuel 89-73 1st Place, lost NLDS

What do you make of this? It's not the worst start the Phillies have had under Manuel, but it's far from the best. Vote in our poll, and leave a comment below.
