Golfer Thomas Bjorn destroys ESPN camera lens with shot

ESPN video cameras are very, very expensive. Don't believe me? Just ask golfer Thomas Bjorn.

Bjorn hit a shot into the deep rough during the first round of the British Open at Muirfield in Scotland. When he tried to get out of the rough, he did more damage.

It wasn't more damage to his round necessarily, but did a lot of damage to an ESPN camera — about $80,000 worth. Bjorn's shot went right through the lens of one of the high-definition cameras of the Worldwide Leader.

The $80,000 it costs to replace one of those lenses is more than what Bjorn has earned so far this year on the PGA Tour — $69,307.

Bjorn is almost assured to not have to pony up the dough to cover the cost of the damage.

That's the good news. The bad news is that Bjorn's costly shot contributed to him finishing the first round at +2 and tied for 47th.
