Donovan McNabb doesn't think Tony Romo deserves that big contract extension

POSTED: Friday, March 29, 2013, 4:59 PM

Reactions to Tony Romo's announced six-year contract extension, which comes with $55 million guaranteed and the potential to be worth $108 million in total, have been mixed. It appears some people are confused by what seems like a reward for an underwhelming career.

Why the Cowboys decided that one playoff win - he beat McNabb and the Eagles in 2010 - was enough to make the 32-year-old quarterback the highest-paid Dallas Cowboy in history is beyond most people's understanding, but former Eagles quarterback and NFL analyst Donovan McNabb was ready to share his thoughts almost immediately.

A bit too immediately, it seems; because McNabb didn't quite have that right. But Hugh Douglas still agreed.

It's a curious deal; one that, by continuing a trend of players not perceived as 'elite' receiving elite amounts of money, quite easily conjures the final scene from Trading Places.

Wow, his unearned millions were so well spent too, especially his injury bonus, you know the one after the Baltimore game when he was benched and got his feelings hurt. The pot and kettle are the same color buddy, man the hypocrisy is incredible

Yeah right, like McNabb has the right to criticize anyone for coming
up SMALL in BIG games??? Who can ever forget his memorable SB of
4 picks (one was called back had nothing to do with the play)and
last 3 minute drive??? And that was in a season where I believe he
only had 5 or 6 picks in the regular season all year, so it again
illustrates he COULD NEVER HANDLE BIG PRESSURE GAMES?

while i share your disappointment/frustration with the super bowl XXXIX loss and 4 championship losses, you cant overlook nor deny mcnabb's 9 playoff victories. ill take mcnabb's 9-7 career playoff record over romo's 1-2 record. hence, that is why it so questionable to give so much loot to a QB who really hasnt done anything at all.

Well if you were/are a McNabb fan or not doesn't matter. The fact is Jerry Jones proved he really has no business being owner and GM. Most rational people football people know that so far Tony Romo is just slightly above average as a QB and certainly hasn't produced (ala Joe Flacco) anything to deserve $55M guarateed of the $100M . I'll bet the average Cowboy fan is just as dubious. McNabb just said what most people are thinking.

Jerry Jones, MUST be NUTS. Romo is a few notches above average,& has not won a thing...55M is a freakin' joke! That's good though, the cowgays just gave a average QB. superstar money.

@Micke48... Just playing devils advocate here!!!...While I will admit McNabb came up a little small in the SB way don't I ever hear about the fact we threw the ball 51 times and couldn't run the ball AT ALL. 45 yards rushing TOTAL. The Oline came up small too in that regard plus Chad Lewis being out didn't help because LJ Smith sucked lol. Just saying he didn't play good but there were other factors like the Defense did good but didn't dominate either. The cheating by the Pats surely didn't help either lol.......

As long as Jerry keeps Romo in there, the Coyboys remain losers. I wish it was guaranteed for 10 years...McNabb is still bitter that no one wanted him when he thought he had 5 years left. Don't go away mad 5, just go away.

this is from an Eagles fan Donovan, the more you talk the more you should shut up. I know Donovan, you can do better. Both the Redskins and Vikings released you for a reason and yes it WAS YOUR FAULT!!!

McNabb's right but it sounds like he's breaking one of those "unwritten rules"-past athletes criticizing current athletes contracts.

And to what success are you referring? The one playoff win?
