Former A's prospect from Fishtown dies

Sean Murphy, a Fishtown native and North Catholic High graduate who played six seasons in the Oakland A's system, died Monday, the team announced.

Murphy, 27, graduated from North Catholic in 2006 before attending Gloucester County College, Salem County College, Division I High Point in North Carolina and then Division III Keystone College near Scranton.

The 6-foot-6 righthander was suspended by Major League Baseball in February after a second positive test for a banned substance. The 50-game suspension started at the beginning of this season.

The A's released a statement after Murphy's death.

Murphy was selected in the 33rd round of the 2010 draft by the A's.
