Flyers sign first-round pick Laughton; Re-sign Bourdon

POSTED: Wednesday, August 8, 2012, 3:28 PM

The Flyers have signed Scott Laughton, the team's first-round pick, to an entry level deal, the team announced.

The Flyers selected Laughton, who spent last season with Oshawa of the OHL, with the 20th pick in June's draft. A 6-foot, 177-pound defenseman, Laughton scored 53 points (21 goals) and had 101 penalty minutes last season with Oshawa.

In addition, the team re-signed Marc-Andre Bourdon to a multi-year extension. Bourdon, a 22-year-old defenseman, netted four goals and three assists in 45 games with the Flyers last season.

More to come...

I have a feeling that out of the ruins of this defense will emerge an unanticipated source of strength in the form of Brandon Manning who will earn a spot on the 3d pairing and end the season on a second pairing. I like his speed , his puck sense and his calm for a youngish dman. Still need another banger back there but I don't have the same confidence that Bourdon is the answer to that part of the riddle.

The Flyers should sign his brother Nick to a contract and then he could drop loads all over the opposing team.

no need for another banger. Schenn, Grossman, Couborn, and Bourdon is plenty. they need a puck mover and scorer to replace the pts of Mez, Carle and Pronger.
