Philly.com, the most popular news web site in Philadelphia, announced today that National Hockey League Hall of Famer Bernie Parent will join “The New Voices.”  Parent, nationally recognized for his successful career in hockey before an eye injury forced his early retirement in 1979, will be featured as contributor and columnist in his new role with Philly.com.  Since retiring, Parent has become a dominant figure in the business community, inspiring audiences with his message on hard work and dedication.

"Bernie is one of the most legendary players in Flyers history who personally inspires me by the strong bond that he shares with so many in the community through his mentoring and leadership." said Lexie Norcross, Director of Interstate General Media, parent company of Philly.com.  “We are thrilled Bernie will be part of Philly.com and know that he will instantly entertain and motivate readers.”

"Readers are going to feel empowered and motivated in their daily lives when they experience Bernie's insights through the written word.  From his book, to his motivational speeches, Bernie is raising the bar in this new platform and we're absolutely thrilled that he has agreed to become a columnist at Philly.com.  Bernie brings an inspirational vision of how hard work and dedication can bring success even in the most difficult circumstances -- our readers are about to experience and learn about one of America's most influential sports-turned-business personalities,” said Matt Romanoski, Executive Producer for Sports, Philly.com.

“I am very grateful to have this opportunity to be a contributor to “The New Voices” of Philly.com.” said Parent. “I have always believed the fans of Philadelphia played a big role in the Flyers winning the two championships.  I am forever grateful for their support.   Philly.com provides a great forum for me to interact and share my life experience with the great people of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.”

Parent is author of Journey Through Risk and Fear, a self-empowerment and motivational book that encourages readers to visualize goals and find a purpose while dealing with fear and risk.  He is also a motivational speaker that encourages business professionals to reach their desired goals.

“The New Voices” is a platform that will soon debut on Philly.com and will feature notable national and local leaders addressing a wide and diverse range of topics.  “Our goal, at Philly.com is to reach across the full breadth of our region’s ideas, its people and their lives,” said Steve Alessi, Vice President, Digital Advertising and General Manager of Philly.com. “Relevance and reach can be overused terms, but “The New Voices” reflects our desire to transform and deepen the traditional relationship between a media company and its community.”

Bernie is a perverted old man that will hit on any young girl that even looks 18. He should be no ones spokesperson.

One of my dad's greatest sports memories is watching the Flyers win the Cup ... and years later meeting Bernie Parent.

    Excellent hire.

Bernie brings two talents that are sorely lacking at this 'news'paper:
Knowledge of hockey, and command of the English language.

So Bernie's eloquent mastery of the English language propelled him into a new career, eh? Maybe he should write his column in French, eh?

The degenerate gamblers and sports fanatics should be thrilled, eh.

Bernie never went beyond the 8th grade. He'll fit right in with the Philly.com roster.

Still have a plaque with Bernie in his Flyers mask on the cover of TIME magazine with the "Hockey - War on Ice" caption. Bernie will always be a Philadelphia hero!

By the looks of the Flyers goal tending he should be rejoining the team instead of "New Voices."

My hero, My idol the best Goalie to ever play the game. Watching him play was inspiring. The TIME magazine cover changed how people looked at the game.
