ESPN's Ed Werder mocks Andy Reid's weight on SportsCenter, apologizes on Twitter
Matt Mullin, Sports Editor
Ed Werder, who covers the NFL for ESPN, was on SportsCenter on Friday discussing the biggest offseason storyline in the NFL: Andy Reid being named the Kansas City Chiefs' next head coach.
During the course of the segment, Werder pointed out that Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and now-former GM Scott Pioli met with Reid in Philadelphia for close to nine hours, but flew home to Kansas City while Reid remained in Philly.
Why did Reid stay? According to Werder's questionable sense of humor, one potential reason is that Reid may have "put the plane over its weight limit."
Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.
Later, Werder took to Twitter to apologize for his "bad attempt at humor."

I don't have a huge problem with Werder making a joke about Reid's weight - maybe because during his 14-year tenure I have become so accustomed to hearing them that I block them out.
What's really offensive is how unfunny the joke - or attempt at a joke - was to begin with.
Werder is a tool.
At least you can fix fat. johnnydomino
@"It was funny and true"... You'd fit right in at ESPN. sighpatrol
Anybody know who Ed Werder is?

It was stupid and idiotic. phillysub1
Frankly there is no room for anyone to post anything about any physical with any person. period....Werder needs to be suspended..what he said was ignorant and shows the type of character he has..... BDL
I've made fun of the fat F for years but guess i am not semi-famous Dutch10
I do think it was humorous; regardless, there's no need to apologize.
Meanwhile, Andy's twin was seen at Sea World under the name Mr. Walrus.
( What a stupid looking moustache ! ) CheeseSteakLover
I heard Andy had a clause put in his Chief contract allowing him to talk disrespectfully to the media/fans. The same one he got Lurie to put in his Eagles contract. I also heard he named his son Britt Director of Player Personnel and asst team fitness coach. AlwaysRight
Who cares?

I'm surprised they broke away from NBA coverage of the Knicks or Lakers. jburd641
He's clinically obese. Here's a man who makes a living in the arena of professional sports. He has access to the best trainers, gear, nutritionists, etc. There's absolutely NO EXCUSE for a man to be morbidly obese for so many years. He obviously has no self-control. I can't understand why any team in the NFL, no matter now many yrs they've been 2/12, would want an obese, practically crippled old loser like Reid. I hope he continues his smug, arrogant "time's yours" and "gotta do a better job" bs in KC. mel-b
For the folks with the cavalier attitude about overweight people, obesity just ISN'T a funny topic. I can't tell you what to post, but I can STRONGLY suggest you may not have thought about the topic deeply enough if you think Werder's/ESPN's comments are funny (which they were not). sighpatrol
Reid seems to be extremely thick skinned and probably doesn't care, especially after putting up with half the idiots who write for the Philly media. Either the Eagles or Chiefs are paying him at least 6 million next year...he wins. kdawg
I saw elsewhere that Andy now has regrets signing with the chiefs. He thought he was signing with KFC! ganjoka
If Andy had dropped 40...60 lbs this off season, it might have inspired his team to win a few more games!!! A fat coach engourages a lazy team. tyroneslothrop
