Ed Werder, who covers the NFL for ESPN, was on SportsCenter on Friday discussing the biggest offseason storyline in the NFL: Andy Reid being named the Kansas City Chiefs' next head coach.
During the course of the segment, Werder pointed out that Chiefs owner Clark Hunt and now-former GM Scott Pioli met with Reid in Philadelphia for close to nine hours, but flew home to Kansas City while Reid remained in Philly.
Why did Reid stay? According to Werder's questionable sense of humor, one potential reason is that Reid may have "put the plane over its weight limit."
Thank you. Thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.
Later, Werder took to Twitter to apologize for his "bad attempt at humor."

I don't have a huge problem with Werder making a joke about Reid's weight - maybe because during his 14-year tenure I have become so accustomed to hearing them that I block them out.
What's really offensive is how unfunny the joke - or attempt at a joke - was to begin with.
Hope Philly Fans Enjoyed running Andy out of Town, cuz if they dont hire the RIGHT Coach, the EAGLES will be BAD for years to come. That should give all the Haters something to cheer about. frankford82- The news coverage is lame but finally, mediocrity has left the NovaCare Ctr! Talk about class, Andy has yet to give the Eagle fans a heartfelt "goodbye". The man isn't human. Good luck KC, you're gonna need it! Time's yours... desjones
- Haters? Why is every Eagle fan who wants a Super Bowl win a HATER? If anyone thinks Andy was going to win a SB here in Philly, they haven't watch the 5 YEAR decline (nosedive?) of the organization. I submit as proof (and there is much out there) the final 5 minutes of his SB LOSS. We'll see if Andy wins in KC, and if he does, it still doesn't mean he'd win one with our "Gold Standard" organization. But he'll admit he has to do a better job... desjones
@ ghost of callison - mine you own freaking business
bag-of-donuts
You think this is bad article take a look at Jason ( no small man himself) Whitlock, in the fox sport pages after he tells a little about his family history, which I am sure Jason did not share in his interviews at past and present employers ." After Philly fiasco, why's Reid hot?" where this of a writer, describes during Reids 9 hour interview with the chiefs - "I hope someone asked Reid to write a short essay about Juan Castillo. Did anyone have the nerve to ask Reid about his son overdosing and dying at Philly’s training camp this summer? The kid had steroids on him, too." I am not a Reid lover or hater, but I hope if Whitlock( who probably weighs more than Reid) ever ask Reid for an interview, he tells you to F-OFF. TS1958- I found Whitlock's column, much like Marcus Hayes' column, to be factual and honest. Reid's flaws including his failure, or inability, to adjust or adapt have been discussed, analyzed, and dissected among posters for over a decade. It's a valid question asked by Whitlock. The Kansas City Chiefs to their dismay, will find themselves asking that same question in a year or two. Guaranteed. essell
Why is anyone surprised by an ESPN big mouth? They do it on purpose to get noticed twpman

AWWW! How many people cut up Gov Christie about his weight. Werder wasn't the first and won't be the last. But you have to admit there probably will be shortage of beef in KC after Romeo and now Reid entering the state. watsonmr
Amtrak wasn't an option. Bruce in NM- well i'll say one thing.its good to see most on here defending andy, yes this team went in total dissarray the last few years, and yes it only got worse with losing his son.but andy's gonna be a great coach in kansas city and have em contending within 2 years.i think a change of atmosphere to the mid west and out of the city will quickly take a positive effect on him.he may not admit it openly to anyone like dick vermiel did,but im sure with 14 yrs in one very demanding organization, and then the latter part of it with the personal issues,he was burned out,but didnt want to feel like he let anyone down.when he gets recharged in kansas city this year,he will be alright.in the meantime this team needs to make the perfect hire or its gonna be several years before the birds even sniff the playoffs.
There were exactly 2 teams in the entire NFL with a worse record than the Eagles, the Chiefs being one of them. And Lockyer (comments) thinks Reid landed in a "great new situation." This is your brain on drugs. JohnnyL
Definitely try the veal. PhillySubsMac
Reid could lose the weight but Werder will always be an ugly bore. lazybone- Someone should have reminded Werder that a few years ago early on in the season we were bombarded with commercials featuring Andy Reid telling us about a weight-loss product he was using - successfully.
That was the beginning of Reid's precipitous slide into the land of the self-deluded.
