Braves determine 'screaming savage' is best suited for batting practice

POSTED: Thursday, December 27, 2012, 11:53 AM

For years, the Cleveland Indians have dealt with backlash given their moniker.  Their name alone has been considered outdated and culturally skewed, but their grinning "Chief Wahoo" logo has received the brunt of the frustration, and in recent seasons, the team has started to distance themselves from the image.

The unveiling of this year's batting practice caps from MLB continues this trend, as some teams like the Orioles and A's went with retro looks, but Cleveland persisted with the simple "C."

The league's other Native American-inspired team, however, is going in a different direction.

It's called the "screaming savage."

It's exactly what it sounds like.

The Braves' wordless image of a mohawaked Native American cocking his head back can be difficult to interpret--it is hard to tell whether the man is screaming or laughing uproariously.

But one thing we interpret for sure is that the logo, originally named "Chief Noc-a-Homa," comes from a different time, when this sort of thing was... allowed to... be a thing.

That time was the 1950s to the mid-80s.  And maybe it should have stayed there.

But for now at least, the Braves will be taking BP with the "screaming savage," probably under some criticism, and probably while exchanging uncomfortable glances with each other.

Believe you me, any political correctness shown by today's baseball owners, is not out of any kind of social concern...It's solely to keep the turnstiles revolving..Their objective, is to take anyone's money, and to not offend any potential customer.

Typical ignorant response by the man with the elf's brain-real small. It was liberals that made this country, not conmservatives. Yes, get it right. The liberals were the ones who wanted to break from England; the conservative Tories remained loyal to the king. It was the people who thought, the inteligentsia who decided to create our own country.Of course conservatives don't think. It's too hard so they let others tell them what to do and say, just like they tell elfie.

I hate the flat brims. I know it's supposed to be "urban", but it looks ridiculous.

It is a cap and not a hat.
Hats have brims but caps do not.
    Caps have bills.
But, yes flat bills do look silly or ridiculous.

I love the knuckle-dragging, booger eating Conservatives who feel the need to take pot shots at "Liberals", when the folks who may/may not be offended are the Native American Indians. Let those folks decide if this is derogatory and offensive. Since they had their land stolen, their culture disfigured and their population virtually wiped out, it's the least we can do.

Of course not. Like all progressive liberals, he's delusional. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

My next door neighbor is a liberal, and he drags his knuckles and eats his boogers.

Everything concerning the Atlanta Braves is offensive to me. I hate political correctness except where it involves the Braves. Also, the Atlanta "chop" offends me, too.
