Atlantic City sports memorabilia auction features Mike Trout's old pickup truck

Millville native Mike Trout wants you to own an important piece of his childhood.

Millville native Mike Trout wants you to own an important piece of his childhood.

The pickup truck that the Los Angeles Angels star's parents bought him when he got his driver's license will be up for auction at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City on Aug. 4.

It's a 2000 Ford Ranger with a stick shift. Debbie and Jeff Trout bought it for Mike in 2007 when he was a junior at Millville High School. When Mike was drafted by the Angels, he bought a new car.

He didn't give up the truck, though. Instead, he sold it to his girlfriend's parents, who gave it to their youngest son, Aaron Cox - who just happened to be a solid baseball prospect in his own right. The Angels drafted Cox last year, and he's now with the Class A Burlington (Iowa) Bees.

Just as Trout did at the start of his pro career, Cox bought a new car when drafted. This time, instead of passing the truck on to another relative, the Trouts and Coxes decided to auction it to the public. And to add an extra-special touch, Mike Trout autographed the outside of the glove compartment.

The opening bid price is $5,000; it's expected to fetch around $15,000. The truck has accumulated more than 166,000 miles.

There's a lot of other big-time sports memorabilia in this auction. Highlights include baseballs and bats signed by Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Walter Johnson, and Jackie Robinson. Click here for the full catalog.
