Former Eagle Jeremiah Trotter rips Andy Reid's coaching abilities

POSTED: Thursday, January 3, 2013, 4:57 PM

On the whole, was Andy Reid a plus or a minus for the Birds?
He was a plus -- Nine playoffs are nothing to sneeze at.
He was a minus – Zero parades. ‘Nuff said.
I’m conflicted -- Wish he’d actually done a better job.

On Thursday, as part of Mike Missanelli’s Football Roundtable on 97.5 The Fanatic, former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter called out ex-coach Andy Reid over his in-game coaching abilities, saying that he was often out-coached in big games.

"If it came down to both teams were even, talent-wise, I think the opponent's team would win if it came down to coaching," Trotter told Missanelli and ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

"Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games," Trotter continued. "Time outs, running the football, you know."

His play-calling decisions also affected the psyche of the defensive players and coaches, according to Trotter.

"As a defense, we understood we passed the ball too much. You know, there's times we're sitting over there like, 'Man, listen. Just get us a couple of first downs so we can get a break.' And I'm sure it frustrated Jim Johnson also."

Trotter spent a total of eight seasons with the Eagles (1998-2001; 2004-2006; 2009), seven of them under Reid, including all four of his Pro-Bowl seasons and both of his All-Pro years.

Trotter also spent time with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so he understands the landscape of the NFL.

So how does the 11-year-vet-turned-radio-host rate Reid as head coach?

"On a scale of one to 10, 10 being great, I give [Reid] a seven and a half or eight as a coach."

Who would be a 10? According to Trotter, that's Patriot's coach Bill Belicheck.

The best thing Reid did during his tenure was the hiring of def. co-ordinator Jim Johnson.
On the whole what was Andy's record AFTER Johnson died.

I've said the same thing for 5 years, but no one would listen. I consider Reid a horrible coach. Who on earth goes in to season after season with NO two minute offense, none, at all! Who goes into a season MULTIPLE times with NO real punt returner? One time Reid hired a guy with NERVE damage in his legs to return punts for the season. Another season it was a rookie who hadn't played any football in two years, but at one time ran back a few punts at Colorado Univ. Seriously, this is PROFESSIONAL football, that means you have a plan, it's your JOB.

From my perspective Jeremiah Trotter didn't reveal anything that true fans didn't already. If you look at most of their games even when the running game was working Reid abandoned it. In too many games to remember even when the Eagles had a choke hold on the lead he'd pass. A lot of times this ended in three and out. I think that Reid has been the best Eagles coach during my life time. Even though I like him, I think that Buddy is overrated. He never won a playoff game and most of the rushing yards he claims helps a defense came from Randall Cunningham. He tried addressing the offensive line by reaching for injured great players past their prime. Defensively, he was on point. Offensively he left a lot to be desired.

i agree with what trotter said.its obvious that was outcoached in so many games, i beg anyone to show reid's record against 1st year coaches and i bet that he has a losing record against them! how many elite coaches have losing records against 1st year coaches ,not many i would bet.

Dan Marino is regarded as one of the all time greats; and he never won a SB. McNabb was a fair quarterback and with a decent running game might have won a SB. Having him throw 60% of the time proved futile early, but Andy just kept doing the same thing hoping to get a different outcome. Sad!

Trot, and a few others made a tuff defense, Reid made a soft offense. The lousy receivers, and all the lousy running backs, even a faded out Dorsey Levins. Like it or not Andy thrashed this team and should have made fourteen years. You couldn't of held your jobs with this type of performance past the one year mark. I don't think the Chipster is the answer, but he can't be any worse.

One Super Bowl visit, result; a loss, 5 championship games, 4 of which the Birds were favorites and 3 were at home, the result; 1-4. Reid is more of a fraud than a good coach. Thanks to Jim Johnson or Reid would have been fired many years ago. Instead, we no longer have Jim and now done with Andy "I have to do a better job" Reid. Wasn't this fun??

I heard Andy had a clause put in his Chief contract allowing him to talk disrespectfully to the media/fans. The same one he got Lurie to put in his Eagles contract. I also heard he named his son Britt Director of Player Personnel and asst team fitness coach.

First of all the title bothers me, Trotter did not rip Reid, he gave his opinion on a question that was asked. Unlike some of our representatives in Washington and workplaces, Trotter gave an honest answer instead of doing the "old dance around" routine. honesty Reid like all humans has their shortcomings. Although I am no expert his game management skills lacked and it showed. Reid had plenty of issues in game management especially when it came down 2 minute warning! Most of the time he would not have his 3 timeouts left because of calling time outs because of bad time outs in the first or third quarters, for example after TV time outs, not getting the correct people on the field for situational plays ETC. Andy’s problem was that he wants full control of the situation and this will cost him. I hope he learned his lesson, but one of the first things Andy did while being named the Chiefs coach was to directly or indirectly fire Scott Pioli, and will name his own GM.

Yes, Andy Reid became very predictable as a NFL coach. Case in point: Week 14 December 9, 2007; New York Giants played the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Eagles had the ball and were trailing the Giants 16 to 13 with a chance to tie the score and force the game into overtime. The Eagles had two opportunities to gain 1 yard for a first down; they didn’t get the first down and David Akers was forced to kick a 57 yard field goal of which he missed, time ran out and the Giants won the game.

Tiki Barber retired from the NFL the year before and was in the broadcast booth in the 4th quarter of this game nationally televised game. Before the Eagles lined up for their two chances at a 1st down, Barber correctly called the next two plays that the Eagles were going to run and the defense obviously knew the plays too. If the Eagles had of won that game the Giants would have been out of the playoffs and they would have been in. But as we know the Giants went on to win the Super Bowl.

7.5 or 8 out of 10 is not bad at all. That basically ranks him right below the elite coaches. Not bad at all. Not the best...but again. Not bad at all. The way the headline reads....you would have thought the man rated him a 2 or 3 out of 10! The BAD writers and FANS give Philly a BAD name.

And "TRUTH teller," you definitely have the wrong name as a republican. Anyway, as many have said, Andy has been really very good for a historically mediocre franchise. But he brought a lot of playoff seasons to Philly even if never a SB victory (which is all many fans think matters). I for one wish him the best but am glad the Eagles can get a fresh start. Let's just hope they get a coach, after all the Andy bashing, that can really compete for THE title.

Hugh Douglas was on ESPN and he sort of agreed with Trotter's comments. But Hugh said it was frustrating for the defense to see the offense play so poorly and that the defense seemed like it would always be on the field. That makes a little more sense because during the peak years the offense was pretty predictable. This is probably no surprise to fans so it shouldn't be a surprise to hear players say it too. I don't care for a defensive player blaming another player because there were probably games where the defense didn't do its job either.

    Trotter?
The guy who was exposed in NFC championship games getting snookered on runs? The guy who, when we were SB contenders, went to the Redskins for a few dollars more? (and we did go to the SB without him).
The guy who Reid brought back? That Trotter? Only because Eagles fans are more emotional than rational does anyone listen to his 'analysis'.

Trot must remember, he also came up pretty darn short in many big games. Yes, Reid didn't win the big one, but the players have a big role in that, too. For example, the vaunted Trey Thomas and John Runyan got their as#$@ handed to them in all but one of those big games, the NFC title game against the very underwhelming Atlanta Falcons. I also remember Mr. Trot getting knocked on his can against the Pats on a pretty consistent basis. There is a very accurate truism of life, the one pointing the finger is most likely trying to take attention away from their own lack of character and failings.

First, it's fine to think whatever you want on Reid, but 90 percent of what you're thinking is interpretation and opinion, 10 percent at best is a fact. There are some well founded opinions on both sides of the fence on Reid, but they're not facts.

My opinion is: a) that when you have a really high win percentage in the NFL over 14 seasons, you're probably one of the better coaches in the league; b) that on balance his drafts have been average with some notable highs and lows; c) Bill Belichick isn't available (and gives the kind of press conferences Philly fans hate on Reid for); d) it wouldn't matter if he'd won that Superbowl (see Terry Francona analogy); and finally, e) I'm so tired of all the griping about Reid, that even though he's a good coach I'm glad to see him go. It's crazy, I know. If I think he's a good coach, why be happy? I just can't take any more ridiculous conjecture about how well some other coach would have done with Ray Rhodes draft picks, opinions colored by Reid's obesity; or opinions about his ability to win "the big one." It's not hockey, it's the NFL, half of all games are "big games."

I disagree with your opinion. Players win games, more so than coaches. Andy Reid won a high percentage of games with players that he inherited. Then, as more of Reid's players were drafted and acquired as free agents, then Reid had a lower winning percentage.

Reid has drafted some pretty nice offensive players, but overall Reid whiffed on way too many draft picks.

Nowhere has anybody said they want spygate chief Bill Belichik. However, I'll go on record saying I would have liked Tom Brady to have played his career as an Eagle.

You feel however you want. It's a free country.

A 7 1/2 or an 8 out of 10 is still pretty good. Fi-fo isn't exactly "ripping" Reid here, just stating common frustrations of defensive players who want a rest on the sidelines. Clock management aside, Reid consistently fielded very productive and successful offenses.

Funny, Ray Rhodes' draft picks seemed to do a lot for Andy Reid, but not Ray Rhodes. Why do you think that is? If you want to blame Reid for his bad hires, you've got to give him credit for his good hires - people like Jim Johnson, Juan Castillo (as o-line coach), Jim Harbaugh, Brad Childress, Ron Rivera, Steve Spagnuolo.

Reid also outcoached the other side in a lot of games. For example, Reid repeatedly outcoached Tom Coughlin in head to head games. The Eagles were usually the more disciplined team.

Buddy Ryan was the best Eagles coach Philly ever had, because he knew football talent, drafted great, and had he been here 14 years as Reid has been, we'd have been in the Super Bowl probably in the last 10 years.

For all of his faults and shortcomings, which Trotter sums up pretty well, Andy Reid never threw his players under the bus, and never aired the team's dirty laundry in public. I never heard him say "Jerimiah Trotter's a great run stopper, but, boy oh boy, he's a real liability out there for us when the other team goes play action." Nice job of copping out, Trotter.

All teams go thru changes to major players, let's see how good Belicheck (I assume you all think he's pretty good?) does after Brady, the way Reid had to perform after McNabb. and Landry after Staubach, Shula after Greise, etc

Trotter is right on point. Andy was weak as a game day coach and never had a grasp on the throw to run ratio. He also stunk in the early rounds of the draft. KC is making a mistake giving him free reign.

Trotter didn't rip Reid, as the sensationalist headline claims. He made coherent, accurate comments about his in-game coaching decisions. Nothing that players and fans haven't noticed for years.

Reid was not usually outcoached between games, as his after-bye-week winning record shows. But in games, he was outcoached probably 75% of the time.

Reid was a good coach, as Trotter acknowledged, a 7 1/2. No one who knows the game would call him a 2 or a 10.

And that's the standard for interpreting this type of anecdotal information. For me, Trotter's comments are very plausible. For those who think that Trotter is misrepresenting the siutation, I ask, what is your basis for making this judgment? Thanks, I look forward to your response.

If he ends up in KC it will be interesting to see if he tries to make a system that fits the teams strengths and not try and fit a square peg into a round hole. Jamaal Charles is a terrific back and they have no QB so the logical thing to do at least in the beginning would be to lean on the run but that is not Andy. With their QB's, if he leans on the pass it WILL get ugly quick! But bottom line, 20-20 hindsight makes people forget what garbage we were prior to his arrival, although a SB championship would have made for a nice parade.

First, Trot did not rip Reid. Philly.com headline writer should be suspended. Second, he's correct. Reid threw too much and was a poor gameday coach; he couldn't adjust on the fly and was below average re: time management. Third, he gave him a compliment and said he was a 7.5 or 8 out of a 10 as a head coach. That's about 1.5 higher than I would have given him. What's the problem here? Andy had a good run in the first 6 years, but couldn't get us over the hump because of his shortcomings. His next 4 years were better than average. Those 10 years (sans 2004) were good mainly due to the defense. And then, once JJ died and Dawk was let go, everything started to spiral downwards...culminating with 2011 and 2012. He was below average for the last 4 years and flat out stunk in 2011 and 2012. That's about as accurate as you can assess Reid's time here.

The line to sign up Andy Reid as a new head coach reminds me of when the Eagles traded McNabb. All the experts predicted how McNabb would be a thorn in the Eagles side for years to come, how'd that work out? I don't see Andy improving KC much, they need somebody who can recognize talent, not Andy's strong suit. Unless Andy comes with his own time machine and he can take the Chiefs back to 1991 when that pass happy offense of his worked. I just watched Chip Kelly's Ducks beat K State, that offense looks like the future to me. It's far from a gimmick, it's the immediate future of football. The Eagles would score a coup if they can get that guy. They'd get in on the crest of this new style instead of what Andy brought, the West Coast when it was on the downside because teams were figuring out how to beat it and building defenses to defend it.

Just because Reid was the best we ever had doesn't mean he's the best there is. You can have the best team there is on paper, but without a great coach you don't have anything. Reid blew it when he left McNabb on the field puking his guts out. That was our Superbowl to win and he blew it. Thanks for the memories but good riddance.

The fact that Reid made this team a contender is just a reflection on how bad the predecessors were. Enough has been said . Give the guy credit for producing a winner at least. It can only get better from here. I trust Lurie to hire a coach that will be successful here. Go Eagles!!! It's a new day! Good morning people! Uncle stosh, get with it. Andy Reid had complete control of all personnel decisions and this year's so-called team was made up of his players and his assistant coaches. His secondary was weak because he picked the wrong players. It's true that injuries to key players hurt his offensive line but even the remaining regulars like Watkins underperformed. Maybe the unorthodox schemes of Howard Mudd hurt some of the players who could not adjust to his system. However, blocking is blocking and these guys stunk. This defense wwas the worst and may I remind uncle Stosh that Reid is the one who picked the defensive coordinators including a guy who never coached defense. Just as Castillo's defense was coming around, he fired him. The rest of the defense was a mess and the wide 9 was a failure. together with his poor game management, his aversion to running the football, and his bone-headed playcalling, it was timefor a change. I wish Andy the best but unless he gives up his power hungry ways, he'll ruin the next team too.

... and then the piece concludes with Trotter giving Reid a 7 1/2-8 out of 10 rating ... not exactly a "rip."

Nice to see a player not kiss that hard-to-miss target of Andy's anatomy. Someone should tell Trotter and his old teammates that we really appreciate their efforts. That they kept the Eagles in games and presented the offense with their best opportunities to lead the Eagles to where they've failed to tread since I was a three-month-old.

trotter was a fairly good player, I'd rate him a 4.2. I really do not care what he thinks about Andy Reid. Andy had to live through a parent's worst nightmare- the unexpected death of a son. Mr Reid might have done better taking a year off to heal his heart and his family. We'll never know. He tried to do his best, in the only way Andy could, by throwing himself into his work. His team, for the most part, did not have the same 'heart' or desire to succeed. I wish Andy well. He is a man. He never gave up. Another team will be fortunate to have him on their sideline.

14 years in the same city and he's out one door, in another without so much as a goodbye. He talks about loyalty this and loyalty that, but there was absolutely none in the end.

He may have said his goodbyes behind closed doors, but he certainly wasn't saying "this is my fault", "I take the blame", didn't defend any of his players seasons...he's a chump. Anyone's who repeats the same thing for 14 years obviously doesn't mean a word of it, because if there was any meaning, then every experience would be different. Nope, he did bare minimum for the players in the public eye, despite him "having everyone's back".

He didn't even care enough about those players to mix it up just once. Not even on his way out.

Nice to hear Trots say what many of us have been saying for years and years. I almost fell over but it's all true. He's a great organizer, but you can't win a championship by scripting 50 plays on a plastic chart. You win by letting the players do their thing, reacting fast on your feet and not panicking under pressure. You win by outthinking a defense. You win by being confident, not trying to prove you're the smartest guy in the league every week to mask your insecurities. Goofy plays are not a way to win games, unless you basically have a balanced team and can afford the risk. You win by running the ball to control the clock. It also helps to draft starters, mostly, and not trade down to get a truckload of fifth-round stiffs. You win by being flexible at the right moment, and knowing when that moment arrives. Take our coach, Andy Reid - please. But I'm just glad his I-really-am-a-genius routine is in Kansas City. Steakhouses will cheer his arrival and cattle will start looking nervously over their shoulders (or rumps or ribs or flanks or loins).

Those of you who defend Andy, remember all those sickening moments as our EAGLES lost to inferior teams in big games. Give Andy a break? Are you kidding? Those players deserved better. They played their butts off. They played hurt. They kept their mouths shut and didn't throw Andy and Marty under the bus. But when Trot, Ike, Dawkins, and so many faithful EAGLE players turned 30 ish how did he repay them? If I sound angry I've been waiting and rooting and giving my fall and winters to this garbage since 1960. I have no more patience. So don't make excuses to me about ANDY RIED.

Players win and lose games. Dawk, Trot, etc lost those games against "inferior" opponents on the field, blaming the coach is weak. The Eagles never had a monster roster, they always slightly over achieved, considering their over all talent. None of the Eagles fans ever likes to remember that the Eagles defense gave up huge drives at the end of games to lose leads. Great defensive teams like the Ravens made those plays/stops. That is the difference between being a champion and coming close. It is all on the players.

    It's about time.
How can a coach throw when a defense has 4 in the box?
How can a coach set up his QB in a naked shotgun when the QB
is getting killed behind an overmatched oline?
That's the genius of Andy Reid.

Stats show giving McCoy 20 touches and limiting the QB throws to 30 delivers a higher probability of a win. Reid would throw with Jim Brown and Adrian Peterson in the backfield. Reid may be a nice guy and even personable but he was easily and quite often outcoached.

The offense is predictable and yet the eagles will run play action which fools no one. You just might have to run the ball once in a while to make play action effective.

Did you see what Shanahan did with a better, more mobile QB that had a sore leg. He ran the ball 42 times and let RG pass 18 times and the skins won.

For an Eagles team that had a boatload of turnovers and a bad oline, one would think running is a good option, even if you only gain a couple yards. Stay close, shorten the game and make a play but more importantly...don't beat yourself with turnovers and INTs.

Good luck in KC. The chiefs have a good running back who'll never see the ball again.

Any coach worth a darn wouldn't let his QB get hit 10-12 times a game and keep throwing...only the genius of Andy Reid would do that.

Give me Andy at home in a big playoff game and the opposition will win every time, and they did...we lived it for 14 years on reid's 5 year plan. Reid is by far the worst game day coach in the NFL.

Thanks for telling it like it is Trot!

Andy thought he could run up the score passing the ball and then run the ball when he got a big lead, problem is he usually fell behind and passed even more. Also, he always looked for the least obvious play and that rarely worked. He's KCs problem now...

Look up the word "ingrate" in the dictionary and Trotter will be smiling back at you. Every so often, Trotter rips someone connected with the Eagles for attention. Within days after the 2009 NFC Championship Game, Trotter complained on WIP that Jim Johnson got outcoached and did not make adjustments against the Cardinals. Maybe bringing Trotter back for third stint in 2009 was not a great decision by Reid either. For all you Andy haters, keep it up. It was time for him to go, and the last two years were not good ones, but tell me who accomplished more with the Eagles....Rhodes, Kotite, Buddy "can't win even one playoff game" Ryan, Vermeil, McCormack, Khyat, Williams, Kuharich, Skorich. You have to go back to Buck Shaw (1960) to top Reid.

Andy, will never be any better then he was here As a matter of fact he'll be worse. Once guys like Dawk, Trot, Jim Johnson were gone it was down hill from there. Plus he's too full of himself and his system to be successful. Any leader can make a plan but the great leaders are willing to adapt their plans to fit the siutations and they do it quickly. It always took Andy 2 or 3 years to see error of his ways and by then it was too late. In 3 to 5 years he'll be a memory in the NFL.

how ar trott's comments "ripping" AR? he did pass too much. he was completely incapable of managing the clock/timeouts. he was too stubborn or dumb to make half-time adjustments.

this is the half-time convo with mornhinweg. if the the run isn't working, pass more. if the pass isn't working, pass more until it does. or as these dopes like to call it, be "agressive"

He may be an average coach but he is cer5tainly not a rotten person. What has he ever done to hurt anyone in fact one of his faults is trying to protect his players. A questionable father and family man I will give you that but by no means a rotten person. If you want the meaning of Rotten person look at the QB..Vick is beyond a rotten human being because of the hideous things he has done.

He wasn't saying that when Andy let him go to the redskins so he could collect his $35 million AND THEN CAME BACK!

I couldn't agree more. Another headline grab by the paper. Though you would think how everyone regard Trotter as a leader, he may have spoke up when he was playing for him.

Now that Reid is officially gone, the truth is finally coming out. I wonder what other skeltons will be revealed in the coming weeks. It's interesting to see in recent commentary the scales tipped in favor of the Reid critics rather than the Reid supporters.

Yeah, let's see if any player, other than guy who acted like a baby, played like a complete dog in Washington and has been bitter ever since the Eagles let him go bc he wanted way more money than he was worth, steps up and has anything bad to say about Reid. The fact of the matter is that Andy Reid went to the playoffs 9 times, the SB, conference championships and he did it all while having good but not great rosters. The Eagles always had huge holes on their roster(still trying to figure out how NFL guys looked at last years roster and thought the Eagles were a playoff team. They looked like a 6-10 team at best.(published and posted in the pre-season, with reasons why I thought they had a weal roster. NO secondary, a QB who looked bad on tape, an atrocious offensive line, small wideouts, and all new LB's)

Reid sucked in big games, get over it.

Your points about Trotter are not convincing or interesting.

The huge holes in the Eagles roster were Reid's fault,
    get real man.

Typical Reid lap dog. Why don't you move to Kansas City so you can cheer on your boy at his new home?

Trotter is only saying what anyone with clear eyes easily saw for themselves. Andy Reid was very predictable, I'll never forget that game against Denver about in '05 where Shannahan was so certain we were passing, he blitzed with everyone... To this day, I still don't recall seeing anyone drop back in coverage. That's not just predictable, that's laughably predictable. It was like something you'd do in a game of Madden, not a real life NFL game. I even remember hearing the commentators say how they never saw anything like that before. We lost that game 49-21 and it wasn't even that close. The Broncos had McNabb on the ground before he could even complete the second step of his drop. And let's not forget the time Keith Brooking called Reid and the Eagles predictable. His exact quote when talking about McNabb being traded: "We knew exactly what was coming on every play. A lot of that didn’t have to do with Donovan McNabb." That's not the whining of a malcontent. That's an opposing player after both blowing and shutting us out. He made that comment for a reason and it wasn't a gripe with the team. Lastly, they say action speaks louder than words. Despite always saying how much they loved him, Andy's players demonstrated anything but that on the field this past season. There's a difference between between not being able to play and not giving a darn. This team clearly fell into the latter category. Brian Westbrook saw it himself and pretty much said as much when interviewed. He of course used the PC comment that the players "weren't buying into the program" but that's a nice way of saying they didn't give a flying you-know-what. Think what you will about Trot but facts are facts.

what team have you been watching? The Eagles are barely over .500 for the last 8 years. And who picked these "good, but not great rosters" - that would be Andy Reid. Who was in charge of these "Eagles teams that always had huge holes on their roster" - that would be Andy Reid. Who put this, at best, 6-10 team together - that would be Andy Reid. Who picked that weak secondary, small wideouts and atrocious offensive line - that would be Andy Reid. Who was so much smarter than every other coach and believed you didn't need a good middle linebacker or safety - that would be Andy Reid. Who was so much smarter than every other coach and thought he could turn a offensive line coach into a defensive coordinator - that would be Andy Reid. I could go on but you know my answer.

Perfectly stated. Glaring holes on the team every year, whether it was linebackers, kick/punt returners, safeties, receivers with size, etc. Any real fan who doesn't recall all the questionable roster decisions this clown made over the years is in denial. A weak NFC East his first five years, talented, inherited players, and a defensive wizard made this buffoon look good for a while. Reality caught up to him, though. I'll take my chances moving on, thank you very much.,

The FACT of the matter is is that Reid consistantly came up short time and time again. He rode the draft picks of Ray Rhodes (Trotter, Dawkins, etc,) to a super bowl appearance and it was all downhill after that. He is a poor evaluator of talent, a sub par game day coach and his pass, pass, pass philosophy is a failure. Once he got rid of the players he inherited and had to use the players who he evaluated, the team went downhill fast. We are better off without him and he should have been fired 4 years ago!!!

The difference here is that a former player is saying it, that says a lot. it brings credibility to the fans complaints about Reid.

Like Buddy Ryan used to say, a defense's best friend is a running game. It gives them time to rest. Even Tom Brady understands the need for a running game.

NFL.com's Albert Breer spoke with quarterback Tom Brady ahead of the Patriots' Week 11 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Brady cites the run game as a major improvement for the team.

    "That's important -- we're running it efficiently."

"Running the ball has saved us in a lot of games."

This is too harsh - Buddy took a crumbling franchise and made it relevant again - but I agree in general that his legacy is quite overrated. For all the great defense his teams played, Buddy never won a single playoff game. And people hate on Andy because he didn't win a SB?

It's not hate, it's just a waste of 14 years. Buddy had 5 years and was fired after going 10-6 but Andy get's 14?? If I had my choice, I would have switched the years and kept Buddy for 14. And if we would have kept Reggie, we would have our Lombardy (or two)!

Don't forget Buddy's boss was Norman Braman, not Jeff Laurie. Braman was one of the worst owners the Eagles had maybe with the exception of Jerry Wolman.
Braman single handedly cost us the great Reggie White.
The man lived in Miami and really wanted to own the Dolphins. Never lived a day in the Phila. area.
