VIDEO: 11-year old Julian Newman is 4-foot-5 and will break your ankles
If you've ever belted out Skee-Lo, and really meant it, Julian Newman is here to show you that you can still be a baller. Newman, an 11-year-old fifth grader from Orlando, Florida, stands at just 4'5" but is making a habit of embarassing players two feet taller and a several years older.

I wish I was a little bit taller...
It would be impressive if he was playing varsity for his junior high, but Newman is playing for the high school varsity team at Downey Christian School. And he isn't just playing, he's dominating.
Here's the description on the YouTube video posted by "scoutsfocus" on December 19:
Julian Newman, a 4'5" 5th grade hoops phenom out of Downey Christian School in Orlando, Florida, has been tearing apart varsity opponents that are 6 and 7 years older than him. He leads the state of Florida in assists at 11.5 a game and is 19th in the nation in that category.
Last night, he scored 14 points, dished 8 assists and had 3 steals against Agape Christian which is one of the top private schools in the Orlando area. Two months ago, he scored 91 points in only 3 quarters of a middle school game which led to his move to varsity.

- Why study when you can ball??!!
hey Woody, way to assume the kid doesn't study because he plays ball... i wonder what would lead you to that stereotype.... Black kid good at basketball, must not be a good student right? Choke on your pride and die. KingOfPhilly
wow!!! incredible skills and talent!!!! squarepeg
Ummm, in woody7236's defense, stereotypes are created because 84% of the time they're true. I agree, this kid will most likely finish high school and become a college dropout and even if he did finish, he won't learn anything. If he makes millions in the NBA, he will go broke 5 years after retirement. It's not his fault, it's just what he's taught by his elder brethren. Please see ESPN's 30 for 30 episode of "Broke". It's an absolute joke. Would be an epidemic if anyone actually cared about basketball players. southpaw26- Ummm, what a life you have to leave a full paragraph to put down a 5th grader? Or NBA players? A whole lot of hate for someone you have never met, loser. The Stereotype of %84 of the bigoted posters is they are unsatisfied losers who vent to hide depression. I would love to hear the success you are in life pal.
Blunt Honesty
the 76ers need him. woody some people study and play ball idiot. etbarksdale
lol@84% of the time like he took a personal survey around planet earth to find out. Just off that beginning sentence I stopped reading the rest of that bull ish comment. In King of Philly's defense. Zeru
Question for the moderator; Why didn't my post not make it through? You allowed two stereotyped views of black athletes make it onto the board but you banned my comments in response to theirs. realtruth
Anyway, I like the kid sees the floor and can distribute the ball to his teammates, that's more valuable as player than breaking ankles which is fun to watch as well. realtruth
THAT IS NOT EVEN THE GOOD ONE-google his name and check out the other videos--FYI his dad is the coach so dont go profiling people.
When he becomes a freshman in high school-he will be ineligible to play
high school ball as he will have played 4 years. HO HUM
Is anyone watching the defenders in this video? They look worse than faux-tacklers in a football movie. The defenders just wave at this kid, like the Globetrotter's opponents, making it look like they are trying. Some of them could block this height-challenged kid without jumping, they just don't do it. It probably is very uncool among them to stuff a shrimp. Cazptain Philadelphia
caz,
i'd like to see tougher D too, but the kid launches that runner in anticipation of the defenders jumping out on him. as a former shot-blocker, i know that's how the little guys get theirs. defenders on the perimeter should be getting lower though, making it harder for him to drive bigsteve
I just watched another u-tube of this kid. I saw defenders really trying but because of his height they had to get to low whitch left them off balance. Once off balance the kid would dribble around them. His smaller steps enables him to make moves they can't. And he can steal and because of his size he's able to take a couple steps while his opponent makes one, which enables him to get in the way when they try to drive on him. The amazing thing is how coordinated this kid is for his age. jimmypx
4 foot 5???
What a shame he's so little. There's something in basketball called DEFENSE, and he would be a serious liability on the court. Hope he gets a growth spurt and makes it to at least 5 foot 10. I was 5'2 at his age. EmanuelP
They said the same same things about Mugsy being 5ft.4inch.,but he last over 12yrs. in the N.B.A.. Do your thing lil. bro. Charliewonk
Southpaw, even you don't believe fully in what you said. You couldn't even commit in your lie.
Stereotypes are true because it's what we want to see. It doesn't matter if a certain group of people seem to do something similiar, it's called a trend, it's not an exact that follows that group forever. It doesn't define who they are. Things can easily buck the other way.
You need to stop watching reality tv. You're actually defining your beliefs based on the info they feed you. You do realize that reality tv isn't real, right? They look for actors or extreme cases, and then script things. It's like watching a movie based on a real event. You are going to get a ton of fluff...
By the way, if you are so insecure over someone so young, I feel bad for your children. You are going to be threatened by them and treat them as such their entire life. You should change your ways and believe what I say, because I'm right 84% of the time. MFPhils
Love this kids skills. When is Philly.com going to get the comment board through facebook that stops these faceless trolls from hijacking every comment board. This is not free-speech. I wish Anonymous would hack this website and put all the racists and hate-mongers info out there for the public to view. Let us see what these ghouls say when we all have a chance to see the man behind the curtain.

Kid made SportsCenter. I think I grew at least 14 inches from 11 to 18. I think he'll have some skills. verve
