Wingo-Reeves commits to Temple

Monacan High School (Va.) senior Connor Wingo-Reeves gave an oral commitment Friday to play football at Temple.

A middle linebacker in high school, the 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is being recruited to play Temple’s fox defensive-end position. He finished last season with 93 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

"I'm really excited about it," Wingo-Reeves said of the defensive line. "It's definitely something new. But I'm really excited to play wherever they put me. I just like playing football.

The 17-year-old also said he's excited about playing for Temple coach Steve Addazio.

“I really like  the head coach,” said Wingo-Reeves, who becomes the 11th member of the Owls’ 2013 recruiting class. “It’s all about winning. And I like the way he looks out for his players. And I really like how he handles himself.”

He chose the Owls’ scholarship over offers from Navy and William & Mary. The 17-year-old also received interest from Virginia Tech, Boston College, Miami, Maryland, East Carolina and Old Dominion.

“I felt like this was the best look for me,” said Wingo-Reeves, who received his Temple offer on Wednesday. “I didn’t want to wait to make a commitment, because I felt like it was the best school for me."

When the ONLY schools to offer you a scholarship are Navy and W&M, that doesn't constitute a power recruit for Temple. When they can out-recruit the power house schools, then they have made it. Temple HAS NEVER been in the upper echelon and they NEVER will be. They are a city school with NO football field of their own. Explain why a superstar highschool kid would go there? And to boot, the school is in NORTH PHILLY!!!

@jonboy: You are totally misguided with your comments. First off, a scholarship from Navy constitutes more than just an opportunity to play college football, but gives one a more meaningful opportunity to gain an education at a world class institution of learning and become a Naval Officer. Second, it is asinine for you to even suggest that Temple could ever compete against the big name programs for top notch recruits. However, Temple had something to offer that persuaded this kid to go to North Philly. Recognize that for many kids, it not just about playing sports, it about receiving a quality education. Something you seem to have fallen short on.

Just like they stole Bernie pierce from the SEC schools that went hard after him....oh, that's right BP wasn't highly recruited by other schools but seemed to do ok with his career. And yes the owls will never beat a BCS champion or be able to hang with a good big 10 school....except they beat the BE champs by two scores and should have taken out PSU last year. Good night trolls.

Keep in mind that MOST negative comments that are posted here come from the disgruntled Villanova and Penn State fans.

One group's team can't and will NEVER get off the porch to play w/the BIG DOGS.

The other, well they are stuck in limbo as their program continues its disgraceful downward spiral.
