Walker considering Temple

Temple fans would have been excited if Daiquan Walker limited his answer to one sentence.

On Saturday, the Constitution High point guard was asked about his college recruitment. Here’s what he said.

 “I like Temple,” Walker said.

“I like everybody pretty much,” he added.

The 6-foot-2 junior, who averaged 22 points and seven assists this past season,  said he has offers from Temple, Central Florida, Florida State and Marshall. Walker said that Connecticut, Florida, Auburn and Rutgers have also expressed interest.

“My options are open for as long as possible, because the attention came real fast,” he said of committing to a college.  “It’s just hitting now. So this is just a decision I will have to take my time on.”

Walker, who plays AAU basketball for the New York Gauchos, will make his decision after the AAU season.

However, Constitution High coach Rob Moore believes Central Florida has a slight edge over the other schools. That’s because, the Knights visited Walker five times this past season.

“And that’s a hike from Orlando,” Moore said. “Central Florida has shown the most love.

“So if he would have to pick a school right now, I would say Central Florida.”

This week, Moore will take Walker on a tour of Rutgers’ campus.

“ I’m not trying to see anything in particular,” he said. “I’m just going to be laid-back, be myself and see the school. I want to see the campus. “

Owls’ fans can only hope his campus tour doesn’t go as well as his Temple visit went. Back then, Owls coach Fran Dunphy made Walker feel special.

“We really like how Fran approached the unofficial visit,” Moore said.  “To me, it really hit home for Daiquan. The thing that Daiquan and my assistant really liked is what Fran had to say on the visit.

“ He was genuine. He talked about life and what to do in life. That’s what was important to us.”

Walker will tell you his conversation with Dunphy was a bonus.  Before that, he was excited about being recruited by the Owls.
“That made me feel real good,” he said.  “Just coming from the City, there’s a lot of haters and a lot of doubters.

“So just for the top school in Philly to tell me that as a player is real good.”
