Steve Addazio’s concern was warranted.
Coming off last week’s huge victory, the Temple coach wondered how his team would respond against Toledo.
The answer was less than stellar.
The Rockets defeated the Owls, 36-13, in Saturday’s Mid-American Conference game at Lincoln Financial Field.
As a result, Temple dropped to 3-2 and 1-1 in the MAC. Toledo (2-3, 1-0), on the other hand, snapped a three-game losing streak.
Rockets backup running back Morgan Williams rushed 20 times for 121 yards and a touchdown.
The Owls committed four turnovers with the Rockets turning the first two in first- half touchdowns.
Matt Brown fumbled a punt return, giving Toledo the ball at Temple’s 10-yard line. Three plays later, Austin Dantin scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper. Eric Page scored on a two-point conversion to give the Rockets an 8-3 advantage with 5 minutes, 58 seconds left in the first quarter.
Temple quarterback Chester Stewart threw an interception on the ensuing possession. Five plays later, Williams scored a 32-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-1 play to make it a 15-3 game.
The Owls pulled within two points (15-13) following Brandon McManus’ field goal with 7:22 left in the half. But that was as close as Temple got.
Temple running back Bernard Pierce had 75 yards for 24 carries. Pierce, who was held to four yards after intermission, failed to rush for a touchdown for the first time all season.
Stewart completed 10 of 20 passes for 173 yards a touchdown and two interceptions.
