Temple travels to Texas for hoops

Temple will try to “hook those horns” this upcoming basketball season.

The Texas Longhorns announced Friday that they will host the Owls in a nonconference game on Dec. 17.

Temple is expected to provide Texas’ stiffest nonconference competition in Austin.

The Owls return four starters from last season’s 26-8 team that reached the third round of the NCAA tournament. Texas, on the other hand, must replace all five starters from last season’s 28-8 team that, like Temple, advanced to the third round of the tourney.

Three of last season’s Longhorn starters were drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. Tristan Thompson went fourth the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jordan Hamilton was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 26th pick. And Cory Joseph was taken by the San Antonio Spurs with at No. 29.
