Tyler Matakevich, a linebacker at Temple, was named to the Football Writers Association of American Freshman All-America team on Monday.

The Connecticut native led the Owls with 101 tackles, becoming the only true freshman in school history to record at least 100 stops.

Matakevich is also the Big East rookie of the year and ECAC defensive rookie of the year.
