PISCATAWAY - Freshman quarterback P.J. Walker threw his 10th and 11th touchdowns of the season and the Temple defense played stout in leading Temple to a 13-3 halftime lead over Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium.
Walker’s touchdowns went for 26-yards to Robby Anderson in the first quarter and 4 yards to Kenneth Harper in the second.
Walker has completed 11 of 13 passes for 116 yards and one interception.
The Owls’ first drive of the game resulted in an interception on his first pass attempt.
Two possessions later the Owls put together their first scoring drive, going 92 yards on eight plays and capping the drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Anderson. The drive featured a nice mix of offense, including a pair of 11-yard runs from running back Zaire Williams and a 13-yard catch-and-run to by tight end Chris Coyer.
Temple’s defense set up Harper’s 4-yard reception when it forced the Scarlet Knights to punt from their end zone. The Owls took over at the Rutgers’ 36 and covered that distance in nine plays.
Temple kicker Nick Visco missed the point-after attempt on the first score.
