Owls' first-string offense loaded with freshmen

An already young Temple team will become younger on Saturday against South Florida.

“I looked on the field today. There were four freshmen, two redshirt freshmen starting on offense,” Owls coach Steve Addazio said Tuesday.

Actually, there were four freshmen, a redshirt freshman and two sophomores getting reps with the first unit.

Left tackle Zach Hooks was the redshirt freshman. Wideouts Khalif Herbin, Sam Benjamin and Romond Deloatch and right guard Kyle Friend were the true freshmen.  Wideout Jalen Fitzpatrick and fullback Kenny Harper were the sophomores.

Defensively,  the Owls (1-2) start redshirt freshmen nose tackle Hershey Walton and middle linebacker Nate D. Smith and true freshman outside linebacker Brandon Chudnoff.

Hooks and Smith started every game this season.
