Scott Roorda, who started at right guard for Temple last season, had season-ending back surgery.
The Owls will replace the 6-3, 300-pound senior from Westmoreland, NY most likely with University of Maryland transfer Peter White (6-4, 330). White has held down the starting right guard position since the start of camp.
Last season Roorda played in all 11 games with four starts at right guards. He also played on the field goal unit.
“We were hoping that he might be able to make it back but it doesn’t look like it now,” Temple coach Matt Rhule said of Roorda.
In another development, linebacker Rob Dvoracek underwent surgery (thumb) and is expected to miss at least four weeks, according to Rhule. Dvoracek had spent some time in the starting lineup during training camp.
Last season Dvoracek, a sophomore, appeared in all 11 games.
