Count Temple football coach Matt Rhule among those who had many fond memories of Lewis Katz, the co-owner of the Philadelphia Inquirer who was killed tragically in a private jet crash last weekend.

“I’m really feeling heavy-hearted over this loss,” Rhule said Thursday morning. “Ever since I have been at Temple no one has been any better to me and my family than Mr. Katz.”

A 1963 Temple grad, Katz was the university’s largest donor. Katz was also a huge supporter of the Temple sports programs.

“He was a huge supporter of mine,” Rhule continued. “He was a friend.  He had the unique ability to show you how much he believed in you. When you saw that coming from him it made you believe in yourself probably more than you should have. He’s going to be really missed.”
