As expected,  Temple’s Bernard Pierce is the Mid-American Conference East Division offensive player of the week.

The 6-foot, 218-pound junior had 20 carries for 147 yards and three touchdowns covering, 19, 22 and 20 yards in Thursday’s 42-7 Mayor’s Cup victory over Villanova.

Pierce moved into fifth place on Temple’s career rushing list with 2,236 yards.  He surpassed Henry Hynoski, who rushed for 2,218 yards from 1972-74.

Pierce's 29 career touchdowns also rank second to Paul Palmer's 39 on school touchdown list.  Palmer is also Temple's all-time leader rusher with 4,895 yards.
