Temple received a vote in the USA Today/Coaches Poll that was released Sunday.
The Owls (3-1) picked up that vote after upsetting Maryland, 38-7, in Saturday’s nonconference game at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Md.
The victory was Temple’s first triumph over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent. It was also the program’s biggest win since the Owls upset No. 14 Virginia Tech, 28-24, in Blacksburg, Va. in 1998.

What they're saying about the Owls on Rivals.com: Temple could win the Big East. A week after almost topping Penn State (14-10 loss), the Owls proved their merit in a dominating 38-7 rout at Maryland. Last week, West Virginia barely held off the Terps; Temple's victory never was in doubt. It was Temple's first victory over an ACC team and its first road triumph over a foe from a major conference since a 20-17 victory at Rutgers in 2002. The Owls can thank junior RB Bernard Pierce, who established a school single-game mark with five rushing touchdowns while running 32 times for 149 yards. West Virginia, Pittsburgh, USF, Cincinnati, Louisville, Rutgers, Connecticut, Syracuse ... none are better than the Owls. Maybe the Big East should re-invite Temple, which was booted by the league after the 2004 season. runjonrun
I think the Big East is doomed. But, it would be great to see a new East Coast Conference with Temple, Army, Navy, UMass (at D-1), Nova (at D-1) and whoever is left from the Big East without a conference, eg Cincinnati, UConn, etc. StevenG- StevenG that's a nice regional idea, but as far as quality goes it still would never be granted BCS conference standing, guaranteeing bowl games, so Temple may as well stay in the MAC with 4-5 bowl teams every year. But just for the fun of it, how about also Delaware (at D-1), Rutgers, are TCU & South FL still in?, as you said: Army, Navy, UMASS, Nova, Cincy, UConn and Temple. That's 11, one more and we could have a playoff game! That would be at least 7 quality, if not great, teams (the MAC really only has 4 or 5 good teams every year, but rarely ones that win bowls) - gee, maybe this East Coast Conf. is not such a bad idea after all.
