Lofton commits to Temple

Friendly High (Md.) defensive end Demetrius Lofton gave Temple an oral commitment to play football Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound rising senior also received interest from Connecticut, Maryland, James Madison, Maine and New Hampshire. Temple was his only scholarship offer.

“Temple was the one,” Lofton told MDHigh.com. “I went to one of their junior days and it just seemed like the best place for me. I knew when I visited they were my school. I’m 100 percent solid to the Owls.”

Lofton is quick off the edge. He, however, is raw.

"They told me I'm a good, hard-working football player with a lot of potential," Lofton told MDHigh.com about the Owls. "They like my size and how I rush the passer. They feel I can fit right in."

Lofton is Temple coach Steve Addazio’s eighth commitment for the Class of 2012.

According to published reports, the Owls have a shot at Gwynn Park (Md.) rising senior Brandon Banks. Banks, a wideout/defensive back, also has scholarship offersfrom  Pittsburgh, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Towson, Old Dominion and Buffalo.
