Haverford's Alston talks Temple, Penn

By Matt Breen

Haverford School’s Levan “Shawn” Alston announced on Wednesday that Temple and Penn are among his final six college choices. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 16 points per game last season and received a lot of college attention this summer on the AAU circuit with Team Final.

Along with Temple and Penn, Alston listed Marquette, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Virginia Commonwealth. The son of a former Temple basketball player said he plans to visit each school and make an oral commitment in the second half of September.

I spoke to him for an article in Friday’s Inquirer. Here are some highlights:

What do you think about Temple?

Temple is a great school, I love Coach Dunphy. They’re in North Philly. It’s – in my opinion –the best school in the city basketball wise. So I really like them.

And Penn?

My godfather Jerome Allen coaches the team, it’s an up and coming team. They just had to big commits from the Philadelphia area in Jule Brown and Jake Silpe. They’re on the rise.

How about you and Trey Lowe playing together? Is that still in play?

Yeah it’s in play. It’s not definite, but it can happen. We have two of the same schools in our lists, so it could happen.

I’m assuming you would play the one and he would play the two?

That or I would play the two and he would play the three. We’ll find some combination that works.

So it would work if the two of you plus Jalen Brunson went to Temple?

Yeah it would still work.

Kareem Ali was tweeting at you about coming to Temple. How does it feel to have a football player recruiting you?

It feels real good. His dad went to Temple, my dad went to Temple. So he’s trying to get me to go to Temple. It feels good to have people want you to go to school with them.
