Just twice have Owls beaten nationally ranked teams

On Saturday, Louisville (No. 7) will become the 87th nationally ranked team the Owls have faced since 1974. Of those teams, 33 prior to Louisville have been ranked in the top 10.

The Cardinals will be the second nationally ranked team the Owls will face this season; they opened the season at nationally ranked Notre Dame, which was ranked No. 14 at the time.

Temple has recorded two upsets of ranked teams in its history, and both of those upsets occurred on the road.  On Oct. 17, 1998, the Owls, under coach Bobby Wallace, won at No. 14 Virginia Tech, 28-24.  And on Sept. 19, 1987, Bruce Arians led the Owls to a 24-21 win at No. 1 Pittsburgh.
