Hargrave Military wideout commits to Temple

James Whitfield, a wideout at Hargrave Military Academy (Va.), recently gave an oral commitment to play football at Temple.

Before attending prep school, the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder attended Fort Myers High School in Florida. Prior to his junior season, Whitfield received a scholarship offer from Tennessee. He was expected to receive more offers. But major colleges backed off after he suffered a knee injury that season that left him less than 100 percent as a senior.

So after graduating in 2011, Whitfield opted to go to Hargrave, where he attracted the attention of Temple.

National Signing Day is Feb. 1
