Clinton Granger is going to get his first start of the season Saturday for Temple, according to coach Matt Rhule.
“I think it will probably end up being Juice,” Rhule said following the team’s practice Thursday. “Connor (Reilly) practiced yesterday but didn’t really do too much today. I think he’ll be available to us as an emergency quarterback, but Juice and P.J. got most of the reps this week.”
Connor Reilly, who started the first two games of the season for Temple (0-2), suffered a bone bruise on his right knee in the Owls’ 22-13 loss to Houston last Saturday. Temple hosts Fordham (2-0) Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field at 1 p.m.
Freshman P.J. Walker will be No. 2 on the depth chart. Rhule has said he doesn’t want to burn the freshman’s redshirt. If things go the Owls’ way agasint Fordham, Rhule doesn’t anticipate needing to turn to Walker.
“I think if Juice goes out and plays the way we all know he’s capable of then we probably won’t play P.J.,” Rhule said. “But at the end of the day, the most important thing is having guys out there. So if we need P.J., if Juice gets banged up or something, we’re going to play him. I’m going into this game anticipating Juice playing a great game and not having to play anybody else.
