Gerardi starts at QB for Temple

Mike Gerardi got the nod as Temple’s starting quarterback over teammate Chris Coyer in Thursday night’s game against Villanova.

The game-time decision to start the 6-foot-2, 206-pounder doesn’t come as a surprise.

He's the more experienced quarterback and opened the preseason scrimmages with the first-string offense

Gerardi started the final five games last season. The junior completed 93 of 156 passes (59.6 percent) for a team-best 1,290 yards to go with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His best game came when he threw for 368 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-10 victory at Kent State on Nov. 6, 2010.

Coyer, who redshirted as a freshman in 2009, completed his only two pass attempts for 47 yards while playing in five games last season.
