Four Owls receive all-MAC first-team midseason honors

Temple’s Bernard Pierce, Evan Rodriguez, Adrian Robinson and Tahir Whitehead were all named first-team selections to Phil Steele’s 2011 Midseason All-Mid-American Conference team.

Four Owls receive all-MAC first-team midseason honors

Temple’s Bernard Pierce, Evan Rodriguez, Adrian Robinson and Tahir Whitehead were all named first-team selections to Phil Steele’s 2011 Midseason All-Mid-American Conference team.

Pierce, a junior tailback, leads the nation in rushing touchdowns with 15.  He also ranks second nationally in scoring (15 points per game) and 13th in rushing yards per game (115.33).

Rodriguez, a senior tight end, leads Temple in receptions (19) and receiving yards (281) to go with a touchdown.  Robinson, a senior defensive end, has 18 tackles and ties Whitehead for the team lead in sacks with four apiece.

 In addition to getting to the quarterback, Whitehead is ranked in the top 10 nationally in forced fumbles, fumble recoveries and tackles for a loss.

The senior outside linebacker’s four forced fumbles are tied fourth  (.67 per game). His three fumble recoveries are tied for fifth ( .50 ). And the Newark, NJ native’s 10 tackles for a loss are tied for ninth (1.67).  Whitehead also has  28 total tackles.

Senior center John Palumbo and junior strong safety Justin Gildea were Temple’s second-team selections.  Senior offensive tackle Pat Boyle, junior kickoff returner Matt Brown and senior free safety are the Owls third-team honorees.
