Temple senior Juan Fernandez will represent Argentina at the Pan American Games.

The 6-foot-4 guard, who was recently added to his native country’s Pan Am team, will compete in the event from Oct. 26 to 30  in Guadalajara, Mexico.

“It is a great honor and privilege to represent my country,” Fernandez said in a statement on Temple’s athletic web site. “I am thankful for the opportunity, and for Temple University and coach [Fran] Dunphy to allow me to take this time away to compete at the Pan American Games.”

He averaged 11.2 points and 3.9 assists last season for the Owls. The Rio Tercero, Agentina native is a preseason first-team all-Atlantic Ten selection.

The school also announced that Luiz Guzman, Temple's point guard two years ago, will play for Dominican Republic in the Pan Am Games.
