Dennis signs with Chicago Bears

Former Temple offensive lineman Derek Dennis was signed to the Chicago Bears' practice squad on Tuesday.

He was called in for a tryout Monday.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder received some late-round consideration in April's NFL Draft. However, he ended up signing with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free-agent and was released at the start of training camp. Dennis also saw time with the New England Patriots in the preseason.

The 24-year-old, who graduated from Temple with a broadcast degree last December, started all 13 games of the Owls' 2011 season at left guard. Dennis has also played center and tackle during his college career.

He has reunited with former Temple tight end Evan Rodriguez, a Bears rookie.
