Brown to start at RB with Fitzpatrick listed as backup

Temple’s Matt Brown will start at tailback in place of Bernard Pierce in Wednesday night’s game against Miami of Ohio, according to a source with knowledge.

The source added that freshman Jalen Fitzpatrick is listed as Brown’s backup due to outperforming freshman Kenny Harper this week at practice. Fitzpatrick was recruited as a quarterback before being switched to wideout in the preseason. A dual-threat quarterback at Harrisburg High, Fitzpatrick rushed for 1,116 yards last season.

Harper had been the third string tailback behind Pierce and Brown.

Brown will make his first start of the season and eighth of his career.
