Bond decides to go to Texas

Temple target Jaylen Bond gave an oral commitment to play basketball at Texas Tuesday afternoon.

The recent Plymouth Whitemarsh graduate made the announcement on an official visit to the Austin campus. He will enroll in classes for the fall semester on Aug. 19. The 6-foot-7, 219-pound swingman backed out of a scholarship to Pittsburgh in March in order to spend next year at St. Thomas More School in Connecticut. After his stint at prep school, Bond was going to head to college in the fall of 2012.

But he opted to go to Texas instead of prep school. The 18-year-old will be eligible to play for Texas this upcoming season only if Pittsburgh releases him from his scholarship. If not, Bond will redshirt this season.

He had scholarship offers from Temple, Penn State, St. Joseph’s and Tennessee for the Class of 2012.
