Addazio to Rutgers?

As will be the case with most Bowl Championship Series head coaching vacancies, Steve Addazio’s name surfaced as a candidate to replace Greg Schiano at Rutgers.

Steve Lassan of Athlon Sports lists Temple's first-year coach among 10 candidates for the Big East Conference job.

Addazio was unavailable for comment Thursday.  However, a source doubts that he is interested in the Scarlet Knights’ job.

“He is on the road recruiting,” the source said. “He’s recruiting for TEMPLE!”

Schiano left Rutgers Thursday to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach.

This is the second time in three months that Addazio was linked to a coaching vacancy. He was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Illinois job after Ron Zook was fired in November.

Addazio replaced Al Golden at Temple in December, 2010. The former Florida offensive coordinator led the Owls to a 9-4 record and 37-15 victory over Wyoming in the New Mexico Bowl this past season.

Addazio has stated in the past that he enjoys coaching at Temple. I would be shocked if he left after one season.
