The Temple basketball team rode the subway to Wednesday night's nonconference game against Duke at the Wells Fargo Center.
It turned out to be a great move as the Owls defeated the fifth-ranked Blue Devils, 78-73. But Temple didn't take the subway as a way to give itself a boost.
"We did that the last time we played [here at the Wells Fargo], and the reason why we do it is because that's Temple," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said. "Over the course of Temple's lifetime people would ride the subway to school, go to class, get back on the subway, go to their part-time jobs in order to afford the education, and then go home.

Bring on Dayton.
At least that’s what Temple coach Fran Dunphy had his team thinking after it upset fifth-ranked Duke, 78-73, Wednesday night at the Well Fargo Center.
“When coach Dunphy walked into the locker room, he said ‘Good win. But I’m worrying about Dayton now,’ ” Owls guard Ramone Moore said. “You don’t have too long to think about the victory.

On Monday, Temple forward Anthony Lee said the outcome against fifth-ranked Duke would be a barometer of how the Owls will play the rest of the season.
If so, things could go smoothly.
The undermanned Owls upset the Blue Devils, 78-73, in front of a sellout crowd Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Rysheed Jordan, a junior guard at Vaux High School, will be one of Temple’s guests at Wednesday night’s game against Duke at the Wells Fargo Center.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder is regarded as the nation’s 25th-ranked college prospect in the Class of 2013, according to ESPN, Rivals.com and Scout.com.
Temple, Maryland and Villanova (in no particular order) are among the frontrunners to receive a commitment from Jordan, says his AAU coach Kamal Yard.

One has to appreciate the Temple Owls’ confidence.
While most outsiders think they’re going to lose, the Owls expect to upset the fifth-ranked Duke Blue Devils.
That’s right, Temple (9-3) anticipates winning Wednesday's nonconference game at the Wells Fargo Center. The Owls aren't interested in settling for a moral victory by hanging close.

Temple appears to be a likely destination for Neptune High School (N.J.) senior linebacker Jazzmar Clax.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pounder was leaning towards playing at Maryland until the Terrapins ran out of scholarships for the linebacker position.
“Temple is a school on the rise,” Clax told ESPN Insider's Roger Brown. “I could make my mark there.”

Temple forward Anthony Lee is the Atlantic Ten Rookie of the Week.
The 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman garnered the award by averaging 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in last week's victories over Buffalo and Delaware.
Lee's layup with 0.3 seconds left gave the Owls an 87-85 overtime victory over Buffalo Wednesday night at the Liacouras Center. It was his lone basket of the game, as he shot 1-for-6 to finish with five points. He also finished with eight rebounds and three assists.
