Only nine freshmen started on offense and defense for Big East Conference football teams last week. Temple had five of them.
That statistic emphasizes the challenge that Owls coach Steve Addazio faces this season.
“But that investment is going to come back,” Addazio said. “It might not come back next week or next month. But it’s going to come back. That’s what it is. We are building this thing for the long haul here.”
Former Temple standouts Lance Johnstone and Marc Jackson are the headliners of the 2012 Temple Athletic Hall of Fame class.
The group of six individuals and the Owls 1988 NCAA women’s lacrosse championship team will be inducted during Temple’s homecoming game against South Florida on Oct. 6.
Johnstone was a standout linebacker on Temple's football team in the mid 1990s. He holds the school record for career solo tackles (288) and is second in career total stops (429). The Philadelphia native went on play eight seasons in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.

Big East Power Rankings: Week 5
This could be a long, long season for Temple.
The Owls (1-2) can’t catch the ball and give up too many big plays on defense. Unless things change, they’ll be lucky to win five games. That’s why Temple dropped to last place in my Big East Power Rankings.

Best and Worst awards for Temple vs. Penn State game
STATE COLLEGE -- My look at some of the best and worst performances from Penn State’s 24-13 victory over Temple on Saturday at Beaver Stadium:
Player in the game: Matt McGloin didn’t look like someone who came to Penn State as a walk-on. The fifth-year senior played like a Heisman Trophy candidate. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown. Eleven of his passes went for 12 yards or more. McGloin also scored on touchdowns runs from 1 and 2 yards out.
