Maryland escaped with a 36-27 victory over Temple on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Owls (1-1) nearly battled back from a 23-point first-half deficit.

Temple quarterback Chris Coyer completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Fitzpatrick to close the gap to 29-27 with 7:04 seconds left.

But Maryland quarterback Perry Hills responded with 38-yard pass  to Stephon Diggs to the Temple 13-yard line. Three plays later, Justus Pickett scored a 7-yard touchdown run to extend Maryland’s lead to nine points with 2:51 left.

On the ensuing possession, Coyer’s fourth-down pass was intercepted by Demetrius Hartsfield.

The junior completed 7 of 18 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns in the setback.

Maryland improved to 2-0.

Is Temple trying to get kicked out of the Big East again? There were about 40,000 empty seats at the Linc this afternoon. Where are the Temple fans? Do they care?

As a Temple alum (BA and MA) married to a Temple alum, with a son who is a Temple alum, I for one care only about the fact that Temple continues to waste money on a football program that has minimal student or alumni interest, does not enhance the mission of the University, leads to the kind of observation you offer. There were 40,000 empty seats because Temple is not, never was, and never will be a big time football school. Someday they will give up this foolishness, focus on what is important, and leave big time football to the likes of Penn State. Until then, what you see is what you get.

This Maryland team looked a lot better than the team that could only put up 7points against William and Mary last week.Temple committed way too many mistakes I thought the team showed a lot of guts coming back in the second half. They didnt give up.. I would give the game ball to the Temple fans who stayed with their team, unlike the Maryland fans who exited at half time last year.. Playing teams in the ACC and Big East make Temple football more revelant and well win our share of games. GO OWLS ...BEAT PENN STATE

Temple's reach clearly exceeds their grasp. I am sure the Big East is really happy they got the Owls back after this clunker. If they don't win, they will get no fan attention in this town. The days of 50 thousand empty seats in South Philly is on the horizon.

Temple's only chance to survive in the Big East was to put a good team on the field and hope to draw 30,000 to its home games. Obviously, this is not a good Temple team and the Owls will be lucky to get 10,000 back to the Linc this year. They'll also be lucky to win four games. Like Pittsburgh, Philadelphia is a pro football town.

Temple plays excellent football and now they are in the BIG EAST they will be fine after they get settled with their new coach. For the$$$ spent by the temple fans they are getting a whole lot more than the sad sack Eagles give on Sunday and they charge a lot more money and they just thumb their noses at the fans when the produce a clunker on sunday. Their "Coach" just tellls the fans I will have to do better next week. Imagine if a college coach came out and said that!! They would lynch him on the stadium goalposts. Enjoy Temple football before you are forced to watch the eagles every sunday and listen to Lurie tell you what a gold standard the tean is compared to the rest of the league.

Nobody cares about the Owls or you ELM!!! Were you one of the over 40,000 fans disguised as empty seats today?

Temple just doesn't have enough talent right now. Addazio has to go hard to recruit and QB and a few WRs. Some of the guys they have out their don't look like D1 talent.

They let last weeks game go to their heads. Come on Owls, you really aren't that good. I was hoping that a successful season back in the BE would raise fan interest in CF in the area. I don't know what a successful Div1A team would do for attendance. I haven't seen one yet.

A lot of the blame should be pointed toward the Head Coach. The lack of discipline of a football team should be the responsibility of the Head Coach.

Five Reasons Why the Owls are now 1-1

    1. The Temple Secondary is awful.
    2. The offensive line is offensive and unable to run block.
    3. The play calling of the OC would be an easy loss in Madden 2012.
    4. Montel Harris' hamstring.
    5. Coach A. didn't have his team ready and they had no discipline.

As a loyal Temple grad and fan, this is hard to say but right now even 1-1 going againt 0-2 on the 22nd in Happy Valley - PSU 35 TU 16.

Today's loss is on the coach 100%. He didn't have them ready. They had the talent to beat Maryland with or without Harris. I love TU but today at home is inexcusable!
