On Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 many gathered for the 15th annual Marian Anderson Award Gala at the Kimmel Center. The Marian Anderson Award honors critically acclaimed artists who have impacted society in a positive way, either through their work or their support for an important cause. This year Berry Gordy was the recipient of the honorable award for being an iconic star-maker and founder of Motown. Recoridng artist Smokey Robinson was also there and took part in the celebration.
Berry Gordy and incoming Marian Anderson Award board chair Nina Tinari took some time to pose for a photo. Nina tells me she is honored to be the new chair of such a wonderful organization – one that has honored many impactful people over the last 15 years similar to the likeness of Marian Anderson herself. A thank you must be given to outgoing chair, Pamela Browner-White, for her leadership over the past 12 years as chair and for the growth of the organization under her tenure.
