Julius and Dorys Erving hosted the Inaugural Dorys Erving Fit Youth (DEFY) Foundation Celebration at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia, Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.

The Foundation addresses childhood obesity in the Philadelphia area through education, enhancing access to nutritional foods, and encouraging physical activity. Julius Erving was a very successful 76ers player – known famously as "Dr. J" – from 1976-87. Although no longer local, the Ervings will always consider Philadelphia home.

The star-studded evening included a reception and silent auction. Celebrities at the event included Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Tommy Davidson, of "In Living Color," performer and songwriter Marsha Ambrious, and Jeffrey Osborne. Several local politicians also attended the event, including Congressman Bob Brady, State Sen. Anthony H. Williams, State Rep. Jordan Harris and Councilman Kenyatta Johnson.

After an evening of food, cocktails and dancing, guests were bussed over to the Double Cross Vodka after-party at G Lounge, where DJ Excel spun into the night.
