Photos: 9th Annual East Passyunk Car Show

The 9th Annual East Passyunk Car Show featured over 140 antique cars on a five block stretch in South Philadelphia on July 26, 2014.

On Sunday the 9th Annual East Passyunk Car Show and Street Festival roared into town as a over 9,000 people enjoy over 100 classic cars, hot rods, choppers, muscle and retro cars. There was also vendors, a family fun area and a food truck area with the longest lines at the beer and lemonade tables.

Everyone enjoyed a super sunny Sunday, strolling the avenue, getting up close and personal with the sparkling clean cars. Trophies were awarded at the end of the day in dozens of categories: "Top 50," The "Best Engine," "Best 50's Custom" and "Best Retro Cars." I learned a retro car is a more current model year, but designed like a car that was made in the classic era. I saw a blue Chevy Truck that looked like it was made in the 1950s but was really made in 2006. After purchasing the models, the owner may add his own touches, such as paint, vintage wheels or even a vintage interior, that would normally be found on an older model car. Many of the owners told me they enjoyed participating in this show–the display area was spacious and the organizers were friendly.

The only complaint: next year they would like to see two more blocks added to the festival are, as some of their friends couldn't register because the application spots filled up quickly for the popular event.
