Great piece!! If she did anything to improve the atmosphere in the district, maybe we could agree with her salary. All she's done is alienate the staff and administrators, not take a stand when students beat up other students (think south Philly HS) and parade around in designer clothes and accessories while rearranging her administrative staff for at least the 3rd time!! If some of this money were given to schools for textbooks in areas that aren't tested in PSSA and Benchmarks maybe that would help. If she didn't layoff NTAs, maybe that would help. If she hired people with experience instead of those in her doctoral program (who have no knowledge of Phila), maybe that would help. But, don't worry-everyone she lets go gets a better job in the suburbs! It's way past time to show Ar the exit.

The SRC was brought in to run SDP like a business, with families as customers, clients .The charter schools are following suit. Business people, corporate executives as many have been or leave to be, demand corporate salaries. Too bad its illiterate students that are being used as commodities. Too bad that none of these experts have proven track records. Imagine 2014 is all experimental. Can/ should we afford this on any level?

I agree Sabel, a good piece indeed but this is nothing new. Philadelphia corruptocrats have had their heads in the cookie jar for years and now everyone is BEGINNING to figure this out?? Why is all of this coming to light now? With brainpower like this, it's no wonder why the city doesn't have any money!!

About this blog
Every year, city government spends slightly more than $4 billion. Where does all that money come from? More importantly, where does it go? Are we getting the most bang for our tax buck? “It's Our Money” is a joint project between Philadelphia Daily News and WHYY, funded by the William Penn Foundation, designed to answer these questions.
