A group of central Pennsylvanians, unhappy with the budget impasse and cuts to social services, has decided to take matters into its own hands.

Led by Waynesboro bookstore owner Mike Kohler, the group has started a petition calling on the General Assembly to impeach Gov. Rendell.

“State services are disrupted. Who does this hurt?” Kohler asked NBC-25 TV of Hagerstown, Md. “The citizens of Pennsylvania.”

Kohler and his friends are angry that, as a result of cuts to social services, a local homeless shelter and the Scotland School for Veterans' Children have been forced to close their doors.

The petition will soon be available at On the Road Books in Waynesboro.

Angry Philadelphians who don’t want to make the three-hour trek can sign an online petition here.

In response to the effort, Rendell’s office suggested that, instead of trying to impeach him, the group should spend its time convincing the General Assembly to go along with his budget plans. Wonder how long that’ll take.

Rendell is going to have to concede to the current GOP demands. The Dems got all they could, there's really no more to hold out for. This will be temporary. He's going to hurt Dems in November.

Rendell is not stupid. Rendell prefers to stop funding everything and have the effect of unofficially shutting down government temporarily to generate tax increase support and to save money. But that is the very tort he accused the GOP of wishing to enact, only on a much larger scale. I think we can agree that the smaller cuts of the GOP plan are kinder than this Mexican stand-off.

Rendell promised everything and deivered nothing. Anyone remember his promise during the first campaign for gov? He could offer a cut in school taxes due to the increase in $$ from legalized gambling - never happened. He aspires to the national stage, but backed Clinton in the primaries. Wants to be Sec of Ed - look at the Philly schools. His pride won't let him backdown, and we all suffer for it. Can't wait for his term to end.

Rendell is politically dead. No need to waste time and money on an impeachment. Just let the chips fall where they may.

Wassup, Philadelphia has written off Republicans for the last 50 years. If you are not a Democrat in Philly you are a goner. That is the problem with Philly, there are soo many paid Democratic votes, tripping over each other, in do nothing patronage jobs. Philly will never change the Democratic political machine and therefore will suffer.

Term limits are the answer - why did we need an a_hole like Vinny Fumo for 30+ years? The politicos forget that they work for us! The elected official from Pittsburgh or Erie works for the East part of the state as much as his/her district. How many more "career" politicos do we have. I'm voting for the challenger from here on - the incumbents do nothing!

Ed Rendell is the worst Pennsylvania governor in my memory. Has anybody been worse? No need for impeachment, but we must hold him accountable for his execrable record in office.

Every year, city government spends slightly more than $4 billion. Where does all that money come from? More importantly, where does it go? Are we getting the most bang for our tax buck? “It's Our Money” is a joint project between Philadelphia Daily News and WHYY, funded by the William Penn Foundation, designed to answer these questions.
