Council President Darrell Clarke said he encourages all residents to participate in this year´s budget.

For residents who want to give their two cents about this year’s upcoming budget — even if they can’t necessarily make it to City Hall on a weekday — there’s good news. City Council is planning to hold budget hearings in neighborhoods throughout the city.

The first is in Southwest Philly, and more will be announced soon, according to a press release from Council President Darrell Clarke's office.

"I strongly encourage all constituents to take this opportunity to participate in their government," said Clarke in a statement.

Council held budget hearings in neighborhoods throughout the city in 2009 and 2010, but not last year, according to Clarke's spokeswoman Jane Roh.

Council has also scheduled  time for public testimony at City Hall, including during the evening.

Mayor Nutter is scheduled to give his budget address on March 8. So far, mayoral spokesman Mark McDonald has said he doesn’t plan to propose any new tax hikes. But he’s revealed little else. Oh, the intrigue of budgets!

After the jump, you’ll find the list of scheduled budget hearings. We’ll post more as we get them.

About this blog
Every year, city government spends slightly more than $4 billion. Where does all that money come from? More importantly, where does it go? Are we getting the most bang for our tax buck? “It's Our Money” is a joint project between Philadelphia Daily News and WHYY, funded by the William Penn Foundation, designed to answer these questions.
