The Screen Actors Guild throws a few of its more stellar members into the awards season fray, nominating some of the top performances of the year.

Yes, folks, it’s that time of the year, when critics post their 10-best lists (look for this one’s on Dec. 25), when critics groups assemble to argue and allocate, and when the Screen Actors Guild, the Producers Guild, the Directors Guild, the foreign journos at the Golden Globes and all the rest start nominating up a storm. Here’s the list from SAG, announced today. Surprises:  Demian Bichir (for the little-seen A Better Life), Nick Nolte (for the Mixed Martial Arts melodrama, Warrior), Melissa McCarthy (for the raunch-com Bridesmaid.)  Surprising omissions: Ewan McGregor (for Beginners), Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Michael Shannon (Take Shelter). Boo, hiss.
