Oscars, Avengers, Star Wars – 2015 Here We Come!

Mark your calendars for the movie events of 2015, from the Academy Awards in February to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ in December.

If you haven't bought your 2015 planner yet, or entered the big days into your smart phone, now's a good time to get going – and to start planning for the movie events of 2015. A few earth-shakingly significant dates:

Jan. 11: Golden Globes are handed out, stealing thunder from the Oscars, the nominees for which are announced…

Jan. 15: Look for Birdman, Boyhood and Selma to pick up multiple nods.

Feb. 22: The 87th Academy Awards ceremony are under way. Prediction: plenty of Seth Rogen/James Franco/Sony hacking/Interview jokes.

March 20: Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent, with Shailene Woodley back as Tris, our favorite postapocalyptic dystopian YA heroine.

April 3: Furious 7, the Fast & Furious franchiser postponed by the death of Paul Walker, with Vin Diesel and company dutifully observing all speed limits and rules of the road.

May 1: Avengers: Age of Ultron

June 18: Jurassic World, set 22 years after Spielberg's original blockbuster, with a fierce hybrid dino wreaking havoc on the popular amusement park.

Nov. 6: Spectre, the 24th James Bond, with Daniel Craig as 007 and Christoph Waltz as the villain. Sam Mendes , who did Skyfall, directs.

Nov. 20: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2. This is the end, as Jim Morrison says. With Jennifer Lawrence back one last time as Katniss, our favorite postapocalyptic dystopian YA heroine.

Dec. 18: Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams' reboot of George Lucas' seminal space saga.

Dec. 31: The Interview 2, in which intrepid tabloid TV journos  Dave Skylark and Aaron Rapaport are invited by the CIA to "take out" Vladimir Putin. OK, maybe this one isn't for real….  we hope.
