Blunt words for Meryl Streep and her Oscar

POSTED: Thursday, March 1, 2012, 11:14 AM

Emily Blunt was in her pajamas watching the Academy Awards telecast Sunday evening at her home in L.A. (Or so she says -- she was dressed by the time she arrived at George Clooney’s post-Oscar bash.) And then, near the end of the ceremonies, when Meryl Streep came up to accept her Oscar for best actress, Blunt was cheering.

“Heaven – her acceptance speech was heaven!” says Blunt, whose first big splash in movies was opposite Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Blunt was the cold, cool personal assistant to Streep’s commanding fashion mag editor in the 2006 release.

“Meryl is so authentic,” says Blunt, in town the other day talking up her soon-coming Ewan McGregor rom-com, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. “Everything that comes out of her mouth is felt. She isn’t  jaded by it all. I think she lives a very separate life from the industry.”

In case you missed it, Streep merrily dissed everybody watching the Oscarcast who might have said, “Oh no, not her again,” and then thanked her husband, the sculptor Don Gummer, noting that spouses are typically cited on the butt-end of an acceptance speech.

Blunt recalled her work with La Streep on Prada: “It was really intimidating, the thought of working with Meryl, because she’s Meryl Streep. And I’m sure, even people who have been doing it for years are kind of mildly terrified at the prospect of attempting to keep up with her. But I think what she brings out of you will end up being some of the best stuff that you do in your career…. She makes everyone raise their game.”

I am talking about someone actually writing about what one useless person has to say about another useless person.
I mean, where would our society be without the substantial contributions of Hollywood and the Einsteins that cover Hollywood?

KTC - If you find these people so useless, why are you reading an article about them? Get over yourself already!

the irony here is off the chart.
thanks for adding yourself to the list of useless people commenting on a useless article about useless people talking about other useless people.
where would our society be without your substantial contributions as well as those of the other people who comment?

I'm guessing the vacuum between your ears prevents you from hearing yourself?

Keep The Change: seriously, dude? This is an article in the entertainment section on movies, while other sections of the paper have articles about Sports or Music. Not everything needs to be serious insights into the universe. If you don't like these types of pieces, why are you reading them and then commenting on them? Read the News and Business sections and make your serious, in-depth comments there.

As movie stars go I really like Emily Blunt but I am not sure why this is news. By the headline I assumed she said something nasty, but I was wrong. Actually I think Emily made her big splash in My Summer of Love. She was great in that movie.

“Everything that comes out of her mouth is felt. She isn’t jaded by it all." Blunt on Streep.

I find Meryl Streep to be totally self-absorbed and into making sure everyone notices her. Really -- the comment that 50% of the people watching thought "no, not her" -- come on Meryl -- 50% of the people don't care about you or your many nominations and few awards to show for it. There is class and there is no class and Streep is no class -- just get up and say "thank you" instead of begging for another Oscar by saying "I know I'll never be up here again." We can only hope.
